Creating a professional design requires more than simply putting together text, images, colours, and layouts. It requires a clear understanding of what needs to be created, why it needs to be created, who it is intended for, and how the final concept should be developed and evaluated. In this blog, we have highlighted the key steps and considerations that contribute to a well-planned, effective, and professional creative process.

The process can be understood through three important stages: creative conceptualization of ideas, designing something, and approving anything or giving it for further approval. Creative conceptualization focuses on understanding the idea, visualizing it, making decisions, comparing it with good references, and improving it where necessary. Designing focuses on understanding requirements, defining the purpose and target audience, visualizing and confirming the concept, gathering the required details, formatting the content, and creating the final design. The approval stage focuses on checking the appearance, requirements, data, concept, readability, formatting, and overall suitability before the work is approved or sent further for approval.

A. Steps for Creative Conceptualization of Ideas in a Professional Manner

Creative conceptualization involves understanding what needs to be created, why it needs to be created, who it is intended for, and what the overall theme should be. It also involves visualizing the concept, making the right decisions, checking its feasibility and compatibility, comparing it with good artwork, and making improvements where required.

  1. Answer the following questions
    • What to make
    • Why to make
    • For whom to make (target audience)
    • What will be the duration
    • What will be the theme
  2. Making a vivid picture of the concept to be thought in one’s mind
  3. Decision making
    • Analysing all the negative points of the artwork
    • Checking the feasibility of the conceptualization
    • Checking compatibility with the target audience
    • Careful selection of scenes, theme, words and sentences
  4. Comparing with the best artwork or previous good samples
  5. Think about the concept and if it is good at just one thought, then develop further on it otherwise, do re-conceptualisation or improvements. Creative conceptualization provides the foundation for the designing process. Before moving into execution, the idea needs to be clear, relevant, feasible, and appropriate for the intended audience.

B. Steps to be Followed for Designing Something

Designing involves understanding the requirements of the customer/seniors, defining the purpose and target audience, visualizing and confirming the concept, gathering the necessary details, formatting the content, and reviewing the completed design before giving it for further approval.

  1. Know & understand the requirements of the customer/seniors by asking them and discussing the necessary details to be put in.
  2. Define yourself what you have to make, what is the purpose of making it and who will be the target audience.
  3. Visualise the concept to fulfil all the requirements as mentioned in the preceding points. Concept should include text, layout, content and designing theme. Make a vivid picture in your mind for what you want to make/Design with hit and trial method.
  4. Confirm the concept yourself by comparison. Do a comparison of the picture that your mind generates with the best (similar natured) artwork that you would have ever seen or with the previous good samples made. If the visualised picture is better than the two mentioned in this point then move on to the next step otherwise do the necessary modification.
  5. Confirm the concept with the customer/seniors.
  6. If the concept doesn’t seem satisfactory to the customer/seniors then do the necessary modification or re-conceptualisation.
  7. Gather the necessary details and matter required for designing.
  8. Put the text in the document and do the necessary formatting.
  9. Look at the design after it is completed, if it seems good at one glance, is better than the best and takes care of all the conceptual things then follow the post creation steps and after that give it for further approval. Use the software that you are good at for designing and design to make the document that is eye pleasing not to show proficiency in software skills. (Design something that has a room for modification).

The designing stage translates the conceptualized idea into an actual visual output. It is important that the design continues to fulfil the requirements identified at the beginning and that the final output remains aligned with the purpose and target audience.

C. Steps to be Considered While Approving Anything or Before Giving Anything for Further Approval

Approval involves checking whether the final work looks good, meets the requirements, contains all the necessary information, fulfils the concept, has proper formatting and placement, makes sense for the intended theme and target audience, and is readable.

  1. See if it is good looking in terms of attractiveness, colour scheme, melody, rhyming, visual appearance, soothness to eyes etc. (It should simply look good when we are looking at it)
  2. Ensure that it meets the requirements of the customer/seniors.
  3. Ensure that all the data/text/other things that are required (as specified and confirmed by the customers/seniors) are there. (This should be tallied with the list of items to be included like: name, logo, address, report etc. that is prepared at the initial stages with the consent of the customers/seniors)
  4. Ensure that it fulfils the needs of the concept i.e., it is in a correct format, no spelling errors are there, there is proper placing, spacing and highlighting (or there is a scope for the same in case of incomplete documents/designs)
  5. If the data is framed on our own then ensure that it makes sense and it is written or drafted or scripted or composed etc as according to the theme and to the needs of the target audience to which the document/script is catering to.
  6. Ensure readability. The approval stage ensures that the completed work is ready to move forward. It is not limited to checking whether the design looks attractive. The requirements, information, concept, formatting, spacing, highlighting, relevance to the target audience, and readability also need to be checked.

D. Additional Checks During the Approval Process

The artwork should also be evaluated in terms of attraction, colour scheme, melody, rhyming, visual appearance, and worthness to eyes. It should simply look good when we are looking at it. It should also meet the requirements of the customers/seniors and contain all the required data, text, and other things. The design should fulfil the needs of the concept, have the correct format, have no spelling errors, and have proper placing, spacing, and highlighting. If the data is framed on our own, it should make sense and should be written, drafted, scripted, or composed according to the theme and target audience. Readability should also be ensured.

A professional creative process depends on careful conceptualization, thoughtful designing, and proper approval. As highlighted above, each stage has its own important steps and considerations, from understanding and visualizing the concept to developing the design, checking it against requirements, making necessary modifications, and ensuring that the final output is appropriate and ready for further approval. Together, these steps help ensure that the design is not only visually appealing but also purposeful, relevant to the target audience, conceptually appropriate, complete, and readable.
